Bring a bike (or horse) and use the hundreds of kilometers of forest roads and horse trails.

Located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Matanzas River in northeast Florida, Washington Oaks Gardens State Park is known for its beautiful bottle gardens and coastal coquina rock formations that distinguish this tan-colored beach from anywhere else in the world. Walk along the porous coquina rocks which are pools of water filled with curious marine animals and shells at low tide. Then return to the formal gardens to stroll among the tall oaks, walnuts and magnolias.

Just three kilometers east of Panama City Beach, St. Andrews State Park is a gem known for its emerald green waters and sugar white beaches due to its location on the Gulf of Mexico. Walk along 1.5 miles of stunning coastline or hike the Heron Pond Trail through the pine forest. Kayak or take a ferry to Shell Island, which, as you can imagine, has many colorful shells. Snorkel or swim in the calm waters of the lagoon and be rewarded by the vivid marine life not far from the surface.

In Citrus County, on the west side of the county, a variety of crystal-clear springs are the main draw, including Three Sisters Springs on the Crystal River. These warm water springs serve as refuges for manatees during the winter due to their temperature of 72 degrees. See wildlife from above along the quarter-mile boardwalk or take to the water in a kayak or paddleboard. During manatee season, from mid-November to March, visitors can only enter Three Sisters Springs by swimming. Live nearby at the Plantation in Crystal River.

Just an hour west of Tallahassee, plan to visit Florida Caverns State Park to admire the limestone stalagmites and stalactites. Take a 45-minute guided cave tour where you’ll walk through multiple chambers in search of amazing rock formations. Spend the day visiting Florida Caverns State Park by hiking or biking several miles of trails. There is also the spring-fed Blue Hole, perfect for swimming and picnicking to enjoy the view. Canoe the pristine Chipola River and pitch your tent at the hotel camp.

The city of Coral Gables in South Florida is home to the largest freshwater pool in the United States called the Venetian Pool. More than 800,000 gallons of fresh spring water are pumped into the lake every day. Opened in 1924, the Venetian Pool is built from coral stone and features two towers, grottoes, waterfalls, porticos and a unique Mediterranean-inspired bridge, all of which come together to make the pool look set in Venice, Italy. Of note, the Venetian Pool is the only pool listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
